The Yangtze used to be so clear that you could see a pen sink to the bottom. Now it has become so dirty that it is not fit for drinking and is inhabitable for almost all marine life. The Yangtze is the 4th largest sediment carrier in the world. There used to be dolphins and other exotic marin life but due to the pollution levels, 50% ofthem are deemed extinct. Overall the Yangtze river is very polluted due to the economic boom that China went through in the 1990's with the building of many factories.(ABC 2013)
How Our Ship Helps the Yangtze River
- Our ship has a hybrid system with 60% of the energy coming from solar panels
- There is a inboard Garden and all food bought otherwise is locally
- There will be no use of Styrofoam or other non disposable utensils and everything is Reused or Recycled
